Allen, Ph.D.,Associate Professor, Department of PsychologyCenter for Mental Health and AgingThe University of AlabamaPresentation SummaryDr. Allen will discuss the influence of family connections in end-of-life decision making and an intergenerational intervention termed Legacy - a combination of life review and activity engagement.She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at The University of Alabama, where she is also a member of the Executive Committee in the Center for Mental Health and Aging. She received her Ph.D. in psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.Speaker's Research InterestsDr. Allen's primary research and clinical interests are interventions to reduce the stress of family and professional caregivers for older adults with terminal and chronic illness and in the dynamics of healthcare decision making. She has published journal articles and book chapters on advance care planning, end-of-life issues, effective behavioral interventions in long-term care, and mental health among aging prisoners.
