Sponsored by Oakland Schools, Oakland Community College, and Automation Alley, the eight annual Global Trade mission was held over a three day period. The challenge given to students was to create a product concept on paper and then by working with experts in the international trade business, market the product in a country of their choice. Examples of the types of products students were asked to create are: “Disposable cars,” in which the students’ task was to design the car of the next century, keeping in mind that build materials must be recyclable. Another challenge was “Hospitals to Go,” where the task was to focus on medical service exporting. For example, helping a hospital specializing in orthopedic surgery in the U.S. market, to take its specialty worldwide. As we prepare for the future of the region, it is exciting to think we have these future leaders in our midst! |
