Author Shares Lessons in Personal Growth- An Appreciative Coaching Perspective for Leaders

Author and Executive Coach, Jacquline Binkert, Ph.D conducts and presents her research all over the world. She is coach to a wide range of successful executives including Leadership Oakland graduate and CEO of NextEnergy, Keith Cooley.  According to Binkert, “What we pay attention to grows and if we spend much of our time focused on the perceived negative in our lives, our level of energy, hope and belief in the future languishes.”  On April 21, she will present her work and share tips for success at the Leadership Oakland Breakfast of Champions event.

Built into the Appreciative Coaching perspective are five key principles that Jackie will share: we are mysteries to be appreciated (Constructionist Principle), we need to grow the positive for inner balance (Positive Principle), all change happens in the present (Simultaneity Principle), we are not resistant to change but to being changed (Poetic Principle), and the future begins where we are (Anticipatory Principle).

You will understand the importance of these principals and learn techniques Jackie uses with her leadership clients to help them embrace their own capacity to flourish and create the future they most desire. Client stories and examples will clarify how the appreciative approach helps leaders shift their attention to be at their best and to inspire peak performance not only in themselves but in those they lead.

Throughout the year, Leadership Oakland holds breakfast meetings featuring experts on a variety of topics.  These breakfast seminars are open to the public and offer the opportunity to hear the latest updates on issues and topics impacting our region.

The Breakfast of Champions event will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010, 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., at the Management Education Center, 811 W Square Lake Rd., Troy, MI. The cost is $32 for LO alumni members and $36 for non-members and guests and includes a complete plated breakfast. The public is welcome. Pre-registration required. To register, contact 248.952.6880 ext. 1. More information can be found at www.leadershipoakland.com.

What a day for a walk (or a run)!

The sun was shining in many ways on Saturday, March 27, 2010.   We got some exercise, raised funds, and had great company all for a good cause.  LO Board member Paul Landry’s daughter has two extremely rare diseases.  She is one of only a handful of people in the world that have either one of these conditions.  Because of this, Passion for Life chose the Landry’s as their “Inspirational Family of the Year.”  Passion for Life hosts a fundraiser 5K walk/run each year and this year LO had a team.  Walking or running for “Team LO” were: Jennifer Korman, LOXIX,  Dawn Pischel, LOXIII, Scott Hiipakka, LOXVIII, Kristie Veenstra, LOXIII, Paul Landry, LOVIII, Tom Landry, LOI, Jim Giszczak, LO XI and his family and Chris Scharrer, LOIX and her husband and two year old grandson.  Over 900 participants took part, raising over $11,000 for the Mott Children’s Hospital.  To read an Oakland Press article on the Landry family click here.

Paul Landry (number 1), and Scott Hiipakka (with US flag)
made good time on the 5k route.
