Volunteer for an LO Planning Committee

E-mail Print PDF

What is the best way to serve your community, work with other LO grads, have fun and make a difference all rolled into one?  Volunteer for an LO planning committee!  Each of these committees are the backbone that make sure the LO programs are current, value added, and meaningful to our participants.  Leadership Oakland Committees meet are “lean and mean” in terms of the way we go about our work.  We only meet to accomplish a specific goal, stick to our agenda (aside from a little kidding around now and then) and get our work done-FAST!  If you are interested in learning more about one of these committees, or in volunteering for one or more opportunities today, please let me know.  Those selected for committee participation will be notified by the end of August.

Jr Leadership Oakland a HUGE Hit!

E-mail Print PDF

Thirty of the coolest kids in Southeast Michigan participated in the first class of Jr. Leadership Oakland.  The three day program--planned and executed as the class project for LOXVIII---was very successful and was created to mimic the Cornerstone program and yet be appealing and interesting to High School students.  Following are some of the responses to the daily “So what?” question that has become standard for all LO sessions.

“It is up to us to change the economy in Michigan.”
“Leaders go through trials and tribulations too.”
“There are exciting new energy options and opportunities in Michigan.”
“This program helped me realize my potential as a leader.”
“I will never speak negatively about Michigan again!”
“This experience will help me in many other aspects of my life.”

Our experience this year made an impact on the adults involved as well.  We are forming a committee to plan for a second Jr. LO in June of 09.

Leadership Oakland presents Anne Doyle and "The Highly Evolved Leader"

E-mail Print PDF

Today, a new generation of professionals of all shades, ages and genders, is questioning the old, rigid paths to professional achievement. On May 14, 2008, join Leadership Oakland as Anne Doyle presents “The Highly Evolved Leader” and gain a powerful perspective on the components of effective leadership.

Anne Doyle, of Anne Doyle Strategies, is an insightful advocate for personal regeneration and continuing to work on your cutting edge.  The new brand of talent gold is abandoning work cultures that don’t work.  Strategic advantage awaits those with the vision and courage to create innovative paths to leadership for the new breed of leader – and for themselves. Once rigid gender roles for men and women have changed dramatically in the last three decades.   What leadership skills tend to be more intuitive to men?  Which tend to be more intuitive to women?  And, how do we learn from one another to achieve greater results?

A member of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame and named in 2001 as one of the “Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry,” Anne has spent over three decades working side-by-side with some of the most admired leaders in sports and global business.  Her exploration of living leadership laboratories continues through her global travels and research for a forthcoming book.   Anne’s presentations are packed with powerful and practical insight that will benefit anyone interested in becoming a “fully evolved leader.” Learn more about Anne: www.annedoylestrategies.com

Throughout the year, Leadership Oakland holds breakfast meetings featuring experts on a variety of topics.  These breakfast seminars are open to the public and offer the opportunity to hear the latest updates on issues and topics impacting our region and/or assist them as they develop personal, professional and public leadership skills. Highlights of the program include:

• Top quality presenters
• Excellent full, hot breakfast
• Early morning so you will still have plenty of time in the office
• Networking built into each session
• Opportunity to meet and connect with other LO Alums
• Introduce LO to your friends and colleagues

The fifth Breakfast of Champions event will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., at the Michigan State Management Education Center, 811 W. Square Lake Rd., Troy, 48098. The cost is $30 for LO alumni members and $34 for non members and guests and includes a complete breakfast. The public is welcome. Pre-registration required. To register, contact Wendy at 248. 952.6880.
